I was lucky enough to be able to test out a couple of the Speedflex classes, a class that offers an intense workout using a combination of machines, bodyweight and kettlebells. You’re given the option of a speedy, yet by no means easy, 30 minute class, or a slightly longer 45 minute class using different circuits and exercises to get your heart rate through the roof. They give you a heart rate monitor which then displays your heart rate onto a screen for the entire class to see, which means that slacking is definitely not an option.
It depends on how many people are in your class as to what size group you’re put into, but even when there’s a large number of you you’re pushed to your limits. As someone who gets bored very easily (I never really do the same exercise twice) this is perfect way to get in a good workout, hitting every single body part, in a quick and efficient way. The machines are designed to work against your own resistance, so it doesn’t matter who was on the machine before you as it is literally a case of you get out what you put in. They’re also designed in a way to reduce muscle soreness which is ideal if you’re trying to fit in a few classes a week – I’ve definitely been there where my later workouts are impacted because of DOMs from the workout before!
The classes are located by Bank station which is a super central location for anyone situated anywhere in London. I’d really recommend it for anyone looking for a fun, new way to workout, with trainers that push you through each circuit and competitions between groups that force you out of your comfort zone.
(There’s also classes in Leeds and Newcastle for fellow Northerners).
